Some FAQs - How We Make Our Luxurious Ultra Moisturizing Soaps

What is Cold Process Technique, and how does it work?

Cold process soap is made using a method that does not need any additional heat to make the soap - it is hence referred to as "cold." That doesn't mean things don't become hot. The combination of lye and natural butters and oils generates enough heat on its own and this is used to make the soap. A reaction, called saponification, occurs between the ingredients. The result, a block of soap that appears almost magically, IF everything was done right.

After the soap has been removed from the mold and cut into various pieces, it is left to dry for 3-4 weeks in the open air. During this period, the water used in the soap evaporates, leaving you with a wonderfully moisturizing mild soap bar that, with good care, will last longer in the shower. Who would have thought of making a wonderful soap just by mixing Water & Oils!!

Soap crafting is both an art and a science, and we've perfected our recipes and techniques over years to ensure the best of all the natural ingredients, sort of like witchcraft.

Is a Cold Process Soap better than Commercially bought products?

To answer this question, let's first understand what you normally purchase and what it's being compared to. The nicest aspect of cold process soap is that we get all of the qualities of a soap from natural ingredients including plant-based oils and butters, milk, clays, and other natural substances.

  • The bubbles in our soaps, for example, come from castor, coconut, babassu oils, sugar, & honey

  • Olive oil, sweet almond oil, Shea butter, Cocoa butter, Mango butter, Kokum butter, rice bran oil, coconut milk, goat milk, cow milk, curd, etc are used to moisturize the skin and generate a silky lather. Our soaps are made using a well calculated in house recipe. Just like you bake your famous cake we make our soap cake

  • The design of our soap is simply to provide a splash of color to your bathroom decor

  • Glycerin is another crucial component of a cold process soap. Glycerin is produced naturally during the soap-making process. It is a natural substance derived from vegetable fat (in the case of our soaps). It protects your skin by acting as a natural barrier

  • Glycerin also has the ability to speed up the healing process and increase skin protection against irritants. Because it's a natural product, some people might be allergic to it, but it's generally a very beneficial thing to have in a soap. In fact, glycerin is so valuable on its own that it is frequently removed from commercial soaps and sold separately. So, when you buy a cold process soap from a small batch maker like us, you know that all the goodness that occurs naturally in soap has been preserved

  • The problem with store-bought or professionally produced soap is that it contains a range of chemicals. Please realise that we are not anti-chemicals, rather, we feel that not all natural substances are good for us, and not all chemicals are likewise good for us. To reduce the price of soaps, chemicals are employed to create the above-mentioned qualities, which hurts our skin significantly.

  • We're used to washing with store-bought soap first, knowing that it will dry up our skin, and then using a moisturizer to restore the damage caused by the soap. Because of all the lovely elements in Cold Process soap, it reduces the need for moisturizer to a large extent
  • Some of you may find this interesting, because we live in a technologically advanced society, mankind today has figured out ways to preserve any product for a longer length of time. Luckily cold process soaps do not require any preservatives to ensure a long shelf life

What is a Cold Process Soap's Shelf Life?

AML01886.jpg

Well....

That is a difficult question to answer. Cold Process soaps are similar to fine wine in that they improve with age. We're still using soap bars from two years ago, and they're still going to carry all the benefits. One downside, since it comes from essential and natural fragrance oils, is that the aroma diminishes with time. It may not fill your room with fragrance but this has had no effect on the quality of our soap.

We recommend using our CP soaps within a year for the sole reason of fragrance. We use skin-safe fragrance oils & mica (imported from the United States and the United Kingdom),100 percent steam distilled essential oils, natural root infusions to perfume and color our soaps and also our CP soaps are PALM OIL FREE. So should you panic if you have a cold process soap that's been lying around for a year or more? Not really, you'll just miss the fragrance and none of the benefits
